Last week while I was in Chicago for Chicago Ideas Week, I met up with amazing artist Cathi Schwalbe, for another installation in her roving Potable exhibit. Together we set up shop at The Fountain of Youth at Schiller Park–what may be the only public hand-pumped well within the city of Chicago–to distribute Cathi’s beautiful ceramic vessels, each of which was stamped “Potable”. Complete with a linen-draped table, candelabra, copies of my book Taking on Water, and Cathi’s Potable vessels, it was quite the fancy affair. A continuous and diverse stream of people–presumably seeking eternal youth and healing–came to the well to gather water for their homes.
